Long News Books

In 1994, Lewis finished the manuscript for Avenue of Escape. We had been working together on the magazine, Long News: In the Short Century, and he asked me if I would publish Avenue of Escape. I had never intended to be a book publisher, but I loved these poems and it was easy to publish it. In the past, I had helped Lewis with some of the United Artist Books, and he knew how to set up the book I still have a few copies of the books, and there are probably more of them in the United Artist Books storehouse. Sixteen years later, in 2020, Cliff Fyman was working on his book, Taxi Night. I’d read the manuscript many times and I admired the project. I was worried that it would never be published and it was an excellent book, so I suggested to Cliff that I publish it on Long News Books. That’s how I became a publisher of only two books.
